Knife Care and Maintenance
Washing Your Knives
- Never put knives in the dishwasher! Dishwashers use harsh detergents and high heat that can damage both the blade and handle. They strip away protective oils and may cause wooden or synthetic handles to crack.
- Most of our knives are made of high carbon steel, which can rust if left wet. Always hand wash your knives, dry them immediately, and store them safely.
- Avoid using abrasive scrubbers, as they can scratch the blade and remove any protective surface coating.

Caring for Wood Handles
- To keep wood handles from drying out or cracking, regularly treat them with linseed oil (like Tried and True Danish Oil).
- Apply a small amount with a cloth, let it soak for 20–30 minutes, then wipe off any extra oil.
- Ensure the handle is fully dry before storing.
- You can also use the same oil you use on the blade to help keep the handle conditioned.
Caring for Damascus Steel and Carbon Knives
- These knives are beautiful but require careful maintenance to prevent rust.
- Always hand wash and dry immediately after use.
- Acidic foods like citrus can cause damage, so wipe these off promptly.
- Over time, a patina (a darkened protective layer) will form, which helps protect against rust and adds character to your knife.
- For long-term storage, keep the knife outside the sheath, ideally in the original wooden box or a dry place.
Removing Rust
- If rust spots appear, gently rub the blade with a mild soap and an old scrub pad, moving with the grain of the steel.
- If rust persists, use a powdered scrubbing compound and a soft pad, again rubbing with the grain.
- For tougher rust, try a commercial rust remover, but use it carefully as it may dull the blade or remove the Damascus pattern.
Oiling Your Knife
- Oiling your knife regularly (not necessarily after every use) helps prevent discoloration and extends its lifespan.
- We recommend a premium, food-safe oil blend containing mineral oil, Camellia oil, and Vitamin E.
- Applying this oil to both blade and handle protects your knife and keeps it looking great for years.
